Daddy and Papa and Uncle Dave ran toward the kids as fast as they could. When they came
around the bend in the trail, they could see the bear moving closer and closer to the
cousins.
“Pull your bows and arrows,” Uncle Dave shouted. Luke and Austin notched their arrows and
let them fly at the bear. That made the bear slow down at least.

Daddy got to the kids first. He scooped Daisy up and held her against his shoulder. He got
her out of there and they moved fast back down the trail.
Papa and Uncle Dave ran to Luke and Austin. Papa had Daisy’s bow and arrow. Uncle Dave grabbed Austin’s.
Austin filled his pockets with big rocks and climbed high into a nearby tree. He threw the rocks at
the bear to distract him.
